At 20 Stories High, we’re thrilled to announce our new partnership with PiPA (Parents and Carers in Performing Arts). We are passionate about making the arts a space that is truly inclusive—one that embraces all talents, backgrounds and circumstances. As part of this commitment, we strive to offer fair and inclusive employment and freelance opportunities to those who care for others.
PiPA was founded in 2015 by actor Cassie Raine and director Anna Ehnold-Danailov to address the significant challenges faced by parents and carers in the performing arts industry. Since then, PiPA has gained widespread support from arts leaders, who have quickly integrated PiPA’s innovative ideas into new working structures and approaches.
In 2015, over 400 individuals from across the performing arts gathered at the Young Vic to discuss how caring responsibilities affect career progression. Three months later, Parents and Carers in Performing Arts was born.
This powerful initiative has grown rapidly, responding to a clear and urgent need for representation and change. PiPA has since expanded its work beyond theatre, collaborating with dance, opera, and music organisations throughout the UK.
The mission and values of PiPA resonate deeply with us at 20 Stories High. PiPA brings together employers, unions, and advocacy groups to create a shared purpose: increasing access to work and deepening the impact of that work for parents and carers across the performing arts.
We’re integrating commitments based on our partnership into our Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Activism action plan, to ensure we’re constantly working and evolving our practice with parents & carers in performing arts.
“This new and evolving type of partnership involves and acknowledges the many vital organisations working hard to increase diversity and equality in the UK performing arts. Our Campaign Partners are aligned with PiPA’s principles, adding their commitment, insights and initiatives to ours within collaborative campaigns.” – PiPA
We are proud to have incorporated PiPA’s values into everything we do at 20 Stories High. We’re excited to make a meaningful difference for the parents and carers we already work with—and for those we have yet to meet.
