20 Stories High bring HEADZ back!

You may remember way back in 2014 when we brought HEADZ Volume 1 to the Playhouse Studio, Liverpool with our Young Actors Company?

Now, thanks to Arts Council England’s Strategic Touring Fund, we will be returning with HEADZ for the next three years visiting LOADS of local and national venues!

Keith has been preparing this year’s stories which will star some of our very own Young Actors Company; Abby Melia, Daniel Sebuyange (Blue Saint), Brodie Arthur, Javea Young & Owen Jones.

Keep an eye on our shows page for tour dates & venues!

A COLLECTION OF CONTEMPORARY URBAN STORIES

present…

HEADZ

Inside every HEAD lies a secret… a story waiting to unravel.

BLACK , HOME and SOFT are three stories that come from the HEADZ collection – a series of short plays which offer a gritty, heartfelt and humorous insight into the lives of young people in contemporary Britain.

BLACK

Nikki doesn’t think that her Dad is a racist, he just cares deeply about his community… But when an African family move in over the road, the dog won’t stop barking,  the kids outside start throwing stones, and her Dad starts laying down the law.

HOME

One Saturday morning Emma and her little brother Jimmy get called into the living room for a talk with Mum and Dad.  But something doesn’t feel right, Dad looks shifty and Mum is zoned out…then the bombshell drops. Mum and Dad are splitting up, Jimmy can’t contain his flow of tears, and Joanne kicks off – big time! How can home ever feel the same again?

SOFT

It’s the Summer holidays and “Soft Jonny” starts hooking up with Joanne an older girl from two streets away. But after weeks of sneaking in and out of her bedroom he begins to realise that he wants to be more than just her booty call. Until one day she gives him some news that will change his life forever.

Headz tackles highly contentious topics whilst delivering strong and meaningful messages, that couldn’t be more relevant to today’s society. A perfect balance of intense, heart rending moments with well timed wit – What’s on Stage ****

Very gripping – I love monologues as a piece of theatre and they were all clearly relevant to the target audience.  Saha’s used a very clever device to simulate a “real” story in the piece.  Very enjoyable theatre. – St. Helen’s audience member

Suitable for ages 13+ Contains strong language, racial and sexual themes.

As a strategic touring project HEADZ will run over 3 yrs and also includes 2 other strands around research and networks and a youth exchange. Aims include:

  • Create, share and celebrate high quality theatre that reflects young people today
  • Developing relationships between venues and their local services so that the work has legacy
  • Making theatre more accessible, inclusive and exciting for youth audiences that are often not reached
