Biography

Tessa is a performer, deviser, director, writer, workshop leader and producer mainly working in contemporary theatre and community arts. She is originally from London and first came across the fantastic work of Julia and Keith when they were running the youth theatre at Stratford East back in 1999. Tessa was still only just discovering theatre for herself back then, and seeing how they worked with stories, music and with young people had a massive impact on how she started thinking about theatre and the sort of work she wanted to make herself. Thirteen years on, and Tessa is still getting inspired by Julia and Keith and is thrilled that she gets to work with them too. Tessa's training has included BTEC Performing Arts (Leyton Sixth Form), BA Theatre Studies (Lancaster University), an Acting Apprenticeship with Hope Street Ltd and lots of on-the-job training with companies like 20 Stories High and Liverpool Lantern Company. Tessa is a core member of Liverpool-based theatre collective The Suitcase Ensemble, who create imaginative devised work that incorporates live music, theatre, dance, poetry and puppetry, in collaboration with a range of artists and local communities. With 20 Stories High, she is proud to have been involved in many aspects of the company’s work since they first set up in 2006, from project management to youth theatre support, and recently worked as Associate Artist on ‘Bulldozer Urban Cabaret’ and is currently doing some fundraising work to help make sure 20 Stories High’s brilliant work can continue!
