On Me Onez

Info

On Me Onez was the third production from the 20StoriesHigh Youth Theatre.

This Hip-Hop-musical with masks, explored the themes of being on your own. When do we need other people? When do we want to be on our own?

This explosive new musical has been written and devised by the group of young performers under the direction of 20StoriesHigh’s Co-artistic Directors Julia Samuels and Keith Saha. ‘On Me Onez’ blends hip-hop music and dance with the traditional structure of musical theatre and elements of masked performance to create a fresh and contemporary piece of theatre that is not to be missed.

The story of ‘On Me Onez’ begins on a Liverpool estate one September. We follow an array of characters over nine months: a chaotic family whose mum is keeping a secret, a young couple with a baby on the way, and a group of lads who feel the need to toughen up, to hold their own on the streets. Tensions mount and emotions spill over as the characters struggle to cope. Being part of a group can be the making – or the breaking – of you. But is the right answer trying to stay on your own?
